Whether it’s visiting a far-flung destination like Bali, experiencing a natural wonder like the Northern Lights, or exploring an iconic monument like the Taj Mahal, travelers are dreaming big for 2025 and looking for the best places to visit around the world, according to a new report from Go2Africa .

To discover the best once-in-a-lifetime experiences, the team at Go2Africa, a South Africa-based travel company, analyzed global Google search trends. Using tools such as AHREF, the team studied the highest search volumes for bucket  list terms  over the past year. They then used this data to create a definitive ranking of the most searched-for trips worldwide.

Bali tops the list. With over 2.28 million bucket list- related Google searches , Bali holds universal appeal, attracting honeymooners, adventure seekers, culture vultures, families, and more. Dubbed the Island of the Gods, this Indonesian paradise draws travelers with its diverse offerings: serene beaches, world-class surfing, breathtaking waterfalls, and iconic temples. Its reputation as a spiritual center further solidifies its status as a must-visit destination. (Yes, the Eat Pray Love effect is still going strong.)

The Greek island of Santorini, famous for its whitewashed buildings and views of the Aegean Sea, is next. “Not only does the island boast magnificent buildings, but it’s also known for its volcanic beaches, lunar landscapes, and breathtaking views, making it the perfect place to take a photo for two,” the report’s authors write.

Finally, Bora Bora in French Polynesia is a paradise island known for its overwater bungalows and turquoise lagoons.

Ranks highest in 15 countries, including its home country of Peru.  Another natural wonder that ranks high in many regional rankings and is ranked tenth in the global rankings is the Grand Canyon.

Cities stand out  : Urban adventures also rank high in the rankings. New York City was named the most popular destination in 27 countries, including Argentina, Finland, and Taiwan. Its iconic landmarks, such as the Statue of Liberty (12th in  the world rankings), cultural scene, and global influence make it a highly sought-after destination.

Go2Africa has compiled a list of the most popular trips in many countries. The Swiss dream of Las Vegas. For the Vietnamese, it’s the Eiffel Tower. In Honduras, it’s the Grand Canyon. And that’s just a small sample.

Go2Africa also looked at the preferences of the United States and the United Kingdom for once-in-a-lifetime trips.

United States  : Americans seek a mix of natural wonders and far-flung getaways, with the Northern Lights being the number one experience.

United Kingdom: The British also dream of the Northern Lights, which come first, followed by the Eiffel Tower, and then South Africa.
